Median Annual Salaries of U.S. Geoscience Occupations

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, median salaries for geoscience occupations increased by 4.5% overall from 2024 to 2025, with specific geoscience-related occupations seeing salary increases of 1% to 13% relative to 2024. The most significant salary increases were seen among post-secondary geography teachers (+13%), environmental science technicians (+11%), hydrologic technicians (+11%), soil and plant scientists (+10%), and geologic technicians (+10%).
Salaries for geoscience occupations (darker colors in the chart) were higher than salaries for broad occupational categories (lighter colors in the chart) for most occupations. Most geoscience-related technician occupations had lower salaries compared to broader technician occupational categories. Additionally, other geoscience-related jobs such as cartographers and photogrammetrists, soil and plant scientists, and conservation scientists, and environmental scientists and specialists also had lower median salaries compared to broader occupational categories.
