Historical degree-award trends in U.S. geoscience programs since 1973 using AGI timeseries data.
The American Geosciences Institute has tracked the number of geoscience-related degrees awarded by U.S. based institutions since 1955. AGI currently publishes the data from 1973 onward to ensure systemic consistency of the timeseries data. Prior to 1973, factors such as conscription and definitional shifting as geoscience programs were established away from their previous homes in chemistry, agricultural, and physics programs make long-term comparisions problematic.
