Peer Review of Models Predicting the Fate and Export of PCBs in the Lower Fox River Below DePere Dam

A 2000 AGI-administered peer review report on PCB fate-and-transport modelling in the Lower Fox River, including model analysis, recommendations, and reviewer appendices.

A Report of the Lower Fox River Fate and Transport of PCBs Peer Review Panel

Administered by the American Geological Institute, Alexandria, Virginia
Edited by John C. Tracy, Desert Research Institute, and Christopher M. Keane, American Geological Institute

This report preserves the findings of the AGI peer review panel convened to examine modelling of the fate and transport of PCBs in the Lower Fox River in Wisconsin. AGI assembled the panel at the request of de maximis, inc., with support for the review process provided by the Fox River Group.

The panel reviewed two primary models being used to assess PCB behaviour in the river system. The report includes:

  • regional geology and background on the Lower Fox River system
  • analysis of the two modelling approaches and their capabilities
  • a summary of major issues and recommendations from the panel
  • appendices with reviewer comments presented as individual perspectives

The editors noted that the report was intentionally presented without a separate executive summary so that the synthesis and supporting reasoning of the panel would remain tightly connected.
